Dr. Samih Tarabichi is an Emirati national regarded as the foremost orthopedic surgeon in the Middle East. Show More rmed over 8,000 knee and joint replacement surgeries during this period on patients from all over the Middle East. He earlier trained in orthopedics at McGill University in the United States and practiced there for over 10 years. When he returned to the UAE, knee replacement was a rare procedure. But he worked hard to establish a program for joint surgery in Dubai. Dr. Tarabichi established the first joint registry at American Hospital in Dubai as well as a fellowship training program for joint replacement which helped improve the quality of joint surgery in the Middle East. During the period 1996-2012, he was Chairman, Department of Orthopedics at the American Hospital in Dubai and has now established the first centre of excellence for joint replacement and advanced orthopedics in the Middle East. A consultant for Zimmer International and on the design team for a new generation of knee implants, Dr. Tarabichi holds four orthopedics patents in the United States that cover various aspects of joint replacement surgery. He specialises in the characteristics of the Asian and the Arab knee and has published many papers in international medical journals on the differences between the European and Asian knee. In 2012, he had a scientific exhibit at the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons meeting at Los Angeles that addressed the special characteristics of the Asian as compared to the European knee.

Dr Tarabichi examined me by chance. I have had knee problems for the last 15 years during which time I was examined by 4 orthopedists.

None of these gave me a satisfactory treatment. During a visit to Dubai I called the the American Hospital for an appointment with an orthopedist. Fortunately, it happened to be Dr. Tarabichi, who prescribed a very satisfactory treatment. I found him a very understanding, later I have come to know that he is a world authority in knee problems.
