Professor James Frame FRCS, FRCS (Plast) is an accomplished and respected aesthetic surgeon who is currently senior consultant surgeon at the Springfield Hospital, Chelmsford, UK. Show More here he resides as Professor of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery at its Faculty of Health and Social Care. Under his guidance, the PMI provides a regional nucleus of postgraduate education and training, alongside medical research and development. Prof. James Frame was brought up in Dunedin, New Zealand, where he won scholarships right into secondary education. On returning to England with his family to complete his secondary education, he gained entry into St. Bartholomew’s Hospital to study medicine, where he qualified in 1977. He then embarked on his selected career as a plastic surgeon, training at Barts, Southampton, Chelmsford, UCH, St. Andrew’s Billericay and Mount Vernon in Middlesex. Prof. Frame is the author of over eighty peer-reviewed papers, book chapters and articles on burn care, trauma and reconstruction and aesthetic surgery. As a senior house officer and registrar, he was the main author and researcher in the field of advanced burn injury care, tissue transplantation and regeneration. His special interests within the NHS include burn care, breast cancer reconstruction and the surgical repair of soft tissue sports injuries, particularly in elite athletes. He has spent time as a Visiting Professor in Singapore, Australia and the United States and has strong international links in research and training. These were made possible by travelling fellowships – in particular, the Winston Churchill Memorial Fellowship which allowed him extensive exposure to leading facilities in USA. After leaving the NHS in 2001, Prof. Frame went on to set up the directorate of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery at Springfield Hospital, Chelmsford. He also supports young plastic surgeons in their training, and is the co-founder of the postgraduate diploma in aesthetic surgery at Barts and the London Hospital. The Centre for Aesthetic Surgery will be established within the PMI, with Professor Frame at the helm, heading up the new mentor scheme. Here he acts as lead plastic surgeon with a professional team of established plastic surgeons on the mentoring panel, all able to lend their expertise to the mentoring of these young aesthetic surgeons. Prof. Frame also supports nursing staff. It is under his expert guidance that aesthetic surgery nurse education in plastic surgery and burns has recently developed into a nationally recognised standard at Anglia Ruskin and Springfield Hospital. Prof. Frame has a very large and successful cosmetic surgery practice with a wide referral base, including celebrity clients, and also continues with his special interests in breast cancer reconstruction and surgical repair of soft tissue sports injuries.
