I am a UAE national and I am the country's first female surgeon. I attended medical school at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, obtained my fellowship in General Surgery then sub-specialised in Surgical Oncology and, in particular, Breast Surgery and reconstruction at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London and the M D Anderson Cancer Centre in Houston, Texas. I am the medical director and founder of the Well Woman Clinic, which was set up in 2006. In addition to my clinical work, I founded and run the only breast cancer support group in the city called "Brest Friends" as well as a breast cancer charity, "The Breast Cancer Foundation of the Emirates". I am a freelance writer on women's health issues and I am married to an American television journalist. We are parents to two daughters aged 5 and 7 years old.
